Media Mindset
Saturday, February 22, 2025
For girls and gender nonbinary youth ages 7 - 12
from 1 :00 - 2:30 pm in our Treehouse Classroom in San Francisco
Empowering Digital Citizens
In today's digital world, giving a child their first device is a significant milestone. Our Media Mindset workshop provides the essential foundation children need before stepping into the digital landscape, whether through tablets, smartphones, or smart watches.
What Makes Our Workshop Special
Drawing from Harvard's renowned "Project Zero" curriculum and Common Sense Media's expert resources, we've created an engaging, age-appropriate program that combines education with empowerment. Through interactive activities and guided discussions, children learn to:
Navigate the digital world with confidence and awareness
Recognize and respond to uncomfortable situations
Build healthy technology habits that support their wellbeing
Practice decision-making through real-life scenarios
Our Unique Approach
Children learn best through active engagement. Using role-play and creative scenarios, we explore digital dilemmas in a supportive, judgment-free environment. Our workshop facilitates open discussions about technology use and its impact on our feelings and relationships.
Proactive Protection
Led by experienced educator Konika Ray Wong, M.Ed, the workshop includes thoughtful, age-appropriate guidance on handling unexpected content. By providing children with clear strategies and encouraging open communication with trusted adults, we help prevent potential distress from accidental exposure to inappropriate material.
This workshop isn't just about rules and restrictions – it's about empowering our children to become critical thinkers and responsible digital citizens who understand how to protect their wellbeing in an increasingly connected world.
Our workshop will culminate with a fun science project: creating winter wonderland snow globes that double as mindful glitter jars. These serve as beautiful reminders to listen to our bodies and moderate our screen time consumption.
