An Empowering and Inclusive Curriculum for All Genders

Summer Institute 2025 (Grades 3 - 5)

June 30 - July 2 in San Francisco

  • Monday June 30

    Day one of our training will cover:

    • Effective tone setting with students to create a safe space for learning.

    • “The Curiosity Box” - Best practices for successful implementation

    • Implementing journals as a tool to provide social emotional support.

    • Essential community norms

    • The first three lessons on our road map to body literacy (growth mindset, shifting identity, and boundaries & consent)

    • Inquiry-based, hands-on science activities to reinforce concepts and make the content engaging and fun.

  • Tuesday July 1

    Day two of our training will cover:

    • Lessons four through seven on our road map to body literacy (healthy friendships, puberty, periods, and body confidence)

    • Inquiry-based, hands-on science activities to reinforce concepts and make content engaging and fun for lessons four through seven.

    • Best practices for planning, scheduling, and implementing the road map to body literacy.

  • Wednesday July 2

    Day three of our training will cover:

    • Lessons eight through ten on our road map to body literacy (nutrition, reproduction, media/digital literacy)

    • Inquiry-based, hands-on science activities to reinforce concepts and make content engaging and fun for lessons eight through ten.

    • How to lead a successful information session for parents prior to teaching the content.

    • Best practices for post-lesson communication with parents.

    • Important liability considerations to protect teachers, administrators, and schools.

This professional development opportunity is ideal for grade 3 - 5 teachers at co-ed or single gender schools, Lower School Science Specialists, or SEL specialists.

Teachers will receive:

  • Our GPS road map to body literacy curriculum

  • Ready-to-use kid-friendly slide decks for all ten lessons

  • Conversation prompts and optional at-home extensions for parents that align with the lessons

  • Parent information session content and best practices

  • Detailed materials list for science experiments

  • Valuable tips, tricks, and insights on decreasing anxiety and increasing confidence while covering stigmatized topics.

Teachers will have an opportunity to meet 1:1 for customized support on unique considerations at their specific school settings such as scheduling, ideal timing, and scaffolding content to create an ideal 3 -5 scope and sequence. Teachers can take a deeper dive on what an ideal program looks like when schools cover our GPS road map from grades K-8. GPS also provides post-training teacher support via email.

Full 3-Day “Road Map to Body Literacy” Summer Teacher Training Fee: $1,200 per teacher

Girl Power Science Founder Konika Ray Wong M.Ed

Facilitator Bio:

Konika Ray Wong, M.Ed is the founder of Girl Power Science. For over two decades, Konika has been a kindergarten through sixth grade science educator. Most recently, she was the Lower School Science Specialist at the Hamlin School for Girls for sixteen years.

She has a Masters in Education and California teaching credential from the University of San Francisco and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Virginia Polytechnic University. She is a Common Sense Media certified educator and attended the Institute for Social Emotional Learning.

She developed her GPS “Road Map to Body Literacy” in collaboration with SCOPE (standing committee on program excellence) at the Hamlin School for Girls and the GPS medical advisory board.

Konika incorporated elements from Responsive Classroom, Mindful Schools, Toolbox SEL, IFSEL, Trancend Education’s LEAPs for equitable 21st century learning, Gender Spectrum, the Exploratorium Inquiry Institute, and Harvard’s Project Zero curriculum into the GPS framework and curriculum.

She is passionate about body literacy, destigmatizing puberty, and building communities of empowered learners that confidently celebrate growth.

We are happy to offer this training on a date that works for you if June 24 - 26 does not work.

We also offer this training for up to 20 educators at a discounted group rate.
