Konika Ray Wong M.Ed.

Founder and Executive Director

Konika is an author, science teacher, and a mom on a mission to flip puberty positive. She founded GPS with her daughter during the pandemic when it was obvious the world needed more girl power and science education! For over two decades, Konika has been a kindergarten through sixth grade science educator. Most recently, she was the Lower School Science Specialist at the Hamlin School for Girls for sixteen years.

Konika’s children’s book, “One in a Million - A First Book About Periods” sky-rocketed to #1 new release on Amazon within twenty-four hours of publishing!

She has a Masters in Education and California teaching credential from the University of San Francisco and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Virginia Polytechnic University. She is a Common Sense Media certified educator and attended the Institute for Social and Emotional Learning. She also has extensive training in teaching mindfulness from Mindful Schools, Spirit Rock Meditation Center, and Vallecitos Mountain Retreat Center. Konika is a certified Wilderness First Responder in addition to possessing Wilderness First Aid and CPR certifications.

She is passionate about body literacy, destigmatizing periods and puberty, and building communities of empowered learners that confidently celebrate growth.

Kya

Director of Innovation

Konika’s daughter, Kya, was her science student in Kindergarten through fourth grade. She contributes fresh ideas and insights to the GPS program. She designed the GPS logo with colorful puzzle pieces that represent both the brain going through a remodel during puberty and the concept of having a growth mindset. She is often the photographer and videographer at our workshops and she takes a strong, inclusive leadership role at our camps as a counselor in training. Every Sunday, Kya offers a different book recommendation on Instagram @girlpowerscience. Her weekly feature is called “Kya’s Sundae” because she loves getting new books from the library just as much as she loves ice cream.

The GPS Medical Advisory Team is comprised of highly acclaimed professionals who are also amazing moms with daughters. Our GPS framework and content is inspired by years of conversations with the doctors on the team. Konika was their daughter’s science teacher for more than five years with one exception. Dr. Julia Ray is Konika’s cousin and her daughter is only one year old. The rest of these dedicated doctors frequently visited her classroom. They shared presentations with the students that brought the content to life. Our daughters grew up together at the same school and each stage of their development ignited heartfelt conversations about meeting the challenges of our times. These conversations sparked the magic that makes the GPS program stand out from the rest.
